Chris Capozziello

Chris Capozziello is a freelance photographer based out of New Haven, CT.  Since hist first internship at the Sun Herald in Gulfport, MI he has been recognized as a serious documentary photographer whose images have won him a handful of awards and praise.  Since his first project on racism, which won him 1st place in a student scholarship with the Alexia Foundation, Capozziello has been building his reputation as a photographer.  His emotionally driven images show his unbiased view on a range of social issues from KKK violence to women who deal with breast cancer.  He has had worked published in the New York Times, Newsweek, The Daily Herald and a number of other national and regional publications.  His photo-essay “A Diary of Healing”, from TIME magazine, won him 3rd place in the World Press Photo Award after it was published.  Capozziello is also a member of the Aevum photo group which includes four other contemporary documentary photographers.  This group of photographers see their cameras strictly as tools to be used to document the truth of the matter.   They are dedicated to accurately display a wide range of social issues and I think Capozziello does an excellent job.  There is a distinct honesty to his images, he is not trying to glorify things nor is he trying to cast a negative light.  He is showing the viewer only what is there to see and letting them make up their mind.

Here are some of his images…what do you think?
